When it comes to brows this winter, it’s all about bold. So how do you get the perfect shape from arch to tip? Noemi Grupenmager, Founder and CEO of Uni K Wax Centers, has everything you need to know to be on trend this season. How do I choose the best brow shape for me? For example, if I have a round face, will a certain shape make my face look longer?
NG: The most important element in selecting a brow shape is to look at the shape of your face, then how you wear your hair. Waxing will give you a clean and well-manicured brow no matter what, but before you go to your waxing center, consider which shape is best for you:
o Round – A rounded shape softens the face to help tone down sharp features.
o Angled – A high and sharp peak gives a more youthful appearance and draws eyes upwards. This is beneficial for a slim, round or diamond shaped face.
o Soft Angled – This shape has a softer and more subtle peak, giving the face a more feminine look.
o Curved – This flattering shape projects a feeling of confidence and professionalism, and is ideal for a square or oval face.
o Flat – A horizontal line brow will make the face appear shorter and more oval when styled on a long face.
When considering hair, know that short hair usually reveals more of the face which further emphasizes the eyebrows. With short hairstyles, a more dramatic brow will intensify features, and a well sculptured arch will accentuate and complement the face. With bangs, brows need to be much softer to create a balance with the hair. To assist with the softer look, try matching the color of your brows as close as possible to the color of your bangs.
What are the most popular brow requests right now?
NG: Women look to Hollywood for brow ideas, based on which celebrity faces are similar to their own. At Uni K, the most requested celebrity brow shape happens to be that of Catherine Zeta Jones. Her brows are what I refer to as ‘middlebrow’ – They don’t have much of an arch, and they’re between thick and thin. It’s a shape that flatters many faces.
What are some of your secrets to maintaining perfect brows?
NG: Many people make the mistake of over-plucking or shaping their eyebrows in a way that does not compliment the natural brow shape of their facial structure. Eyebrows are a very delicate area when it comes to hair removal because once removed, the hair will most likely not grow back evenly. Eyebrows highlight the most dramatic and expressive part of the body, your beautiful face! The secret to shaping your eyebrows is to get them professionally waxed at least once a month and to keep them as close to your own natural shape as possible.
Also, when using tweezers on eyebrows, know that you are inviting bumps and more course hair to grow under the skin. It’s much better to stick solely to waxing and, rather than tweezing in between services to keep brows clean, just stop into your spa for touch ups as needed.
